A Day on the Olympic Peninsula

Today, Alex, My friend Lisa, and I went on an adventure to the Olympic Peninsula of Washington.

After fueling up on espresso and pastries, we took the WA state ferry from Edmonds to the Kingston dock on the peninsula. We followed highway 104 to Port Gamble, a charming historic hamlet. We continued down the road until we reached the stunning views from the Hood Canal Bridge.

After a series of carefully watched for turns,we drove through Port Townsend to Fort Warden, once an important defensive battery of the Northwest, now a multi use facility owned by the Parks Department. Alex had a blast exploring all the tunnels and nooks of the old gun batteries. Lisa and I had hair blasts. It was a very blustery day on the coast! We also took a look around the visitor's center, gift shop, and Alexander's Castle. He thought this was way cool!

Then it was time for lunch at the Courtyard Cafe in Port Townsend, an awesomely awesome bakery, espresso, and sandwich shop. Following lunch, we shopped! Port Townsend has wonderful Victorian architecture and a banquet of wallet tantalizers. Lisa found the perfect mug for hot chocolate, complete with a cute quail. I found a new age bookstore full of treasures, a very girly clothing shop, a wonderland of unique earrings, and a Celtic space with knot rings, retail heaven! We also discovered a used bookstore (we have a nose for these) and a bead shop.

Our final stop before heading back down the road was back to the Courtyard Cafe for espresso and a homemade cookie (delish!). We also each picked up a loaf of cinnamon bread for tomorrow morning's French toast. We timed our arrival perfectly at Kingston, as the ferry back to Edmonds was just boarding. It was smooth sailing and a great time was add by all the merry adventurers.
